Check this opening out. Its from a show called Gekkou Kamen(Moonlight Mask) from 1958. Its rumored to be the first tokusatsu in Japan.

We have definitely come a long way. But, why is he wearing a turbin? And it was funny how one of the credits had a question mark, like they didnt know either what the guy did or they didnt know who did the job.

Ok. It took me awhile but I got your answer.

The reason why there is a question mark is because neither the characters in the show nor the audience who he is exactly. In the show, the most likely suspect is this detective mainly because he's never around when Gekkou Kamen shows up.

This is probably the number 1 most poplar show ever among Japanese children. This was like their Batman. It ran for 131 episode which I think is the most episodes ever in a Tokusatsu show. It definitely beats out Kamen Rider's 98 episodes and Himitsu Sentai Goranger's 84 episodes.

But just like Batman and Superman, kids liked Gekkou Kamen so much that they tried and copy his stunts. And just like in the U.S, kids got hurt. This cause parents to complain and it led to its cancellation in 1959.

I've seen about three episodes of the series, it's really different coming from the current age tokusatsu, but it wasn't that bad. I really enjoyed the characters and plots, wish I could say the same about the suit though.
