Just watched the two part episode Doomsday in Mighty Morphin Season 1, and as i was watching it i could help speculating that it seemed a lot like a finale.

1. it was the 39th and 40th episode of the season, which is usually an ending point to a season, once SPD ended.

2. Right at the end, Zordon gave them a choice to stay as Power Rangers, because they gave Rita such a hard blow, that she possibly could not have continued her evil reign

3. Goldar unleashes his zord, for the first and ONLY time, and stood a very good chance at destroying the rangers.

4. Zords got immensly damaged (Megazord lost its body parts)

But at the end they continued to fight on as rangers, at this stage my guess is they decided to make another 20 episodes, making the longest season is PR history, and Tommy get his powers back during the 20 episodes, so they can continue on to make another season ( or 16) lol.

So could this episode possibly have been planned as a finale for MMPR1?

It was the planned finale for S1, yes.

Question is right, if the show was a total bomb Saban was gonna use that as the series finale because it was the end of the original Zyuranger episodes

according to the Tommy's interview I've post,normanly he would die as a green ranger but there was panic about him and they told him that they will make more episodes. He would be Ryan Steele!

Yes. Doomsday was supposed to be the finale for MMPR. Dairanger was to be the next season with new actors and powers and mentors, but due to popularity the MMPR returned for two more seasons with the Dairanger & Kakuranger Powers.

i wish it was a finale of MMpr becasue the suits got annoying and the suits and the zords didnt make sense

thx guys, i thought so and ger919 is right, having the same ranger suits and powers for three seasons, and adding things from Dai and Kakuranger kind of got boring.... it would have been ausome if they at least changed their suits.

oh yeah, it would be great dairanger suits. the mighty morphin thunder power rangers (how the actual thunder rangers would be called?)

They could at least, vanquish Rita from the moon, i don't know.
But, that time, americans was a kinda of new on this tokusatsu stuff.
Anyway, MMPR rocks!!!
