Does anyone else get annoyed with Anime haters? People who mock cartoons from other countries, especially japanese ones, when they've never sat down and watched one in their lives, because of silly reasons like their minds are closed off to the idea or they don't want to associate themselves with anything that originated outside the United States or wherever they're from. I mean, I never realized how stupid some of these people can be until I got into a heated discussion with a particularly interesting hater just yesterday. I happened to be discussing the credibility of using computers rather than doing artwork by hand in the artist's field and wether it's still artwork, when he mentioned to me that after college he wanted to make anime. And I told him my opinion saying that it was cool that he wanted to do that, but if he wants to be serious about it then he'd better move to japan. This guy basically scoffed my statement, saying that Japanese cartoons were crap. And that confused me because, personally, I like these cartoons and their comic books a LOT more than some "Americanime" as I like to call it in the industry. The only Americanime he pitched to me as being "good" was Avatar, whereas I suggested several very decent and hugely popular animes from japan, including Bleach, Naruto, and Sailor moon. This creep tried to tell me that Bleach is just a knockoff of DBZ, that Naruto sucks on the grounds that it's not credible to the actual history of ninjas, and because of how heavily cut the american version of Sailor Moon was he told me it was crap, as was what he claimed was an "X-rated" version in japan...although I don't understand how a pre-teen's cleavage and Sailor Uranus and Pluto's lesbian relationship mean anything, considering they never had sex on the show from what I remember. He even tried telling me that Gundam Wing, one of the most successful Anime shows of all time, was junk on the grounds that it had too many robots and that robots were a rehashed and recurring theme in Japanese cartoons. Rehashed? Junk? Crap? Where does this guy get off? He's completely slamming every anime i've come to know and love when he himself hardly knows anything about the industry. I highly doubt he's ever watched a full episode of anything roughly anime in scope, and this sort of creep wants to make cartoons for children while denouncing the popular cartoons that he should probably be drawing inspiration from!? What nerve! I dunno. I'm just a little bummed that some douchebag who doesn't know what he's talking about would try to be so official with me just because he's two years away from finishing college. Big deal! |

I feel ya. Anime haters piss me off too. Tho the main reason is that they usually write off anime as for Kids (by calling it "cartoons"). Makes me wanna punch them in the mouth. First off, Cartoons are stuff like Looney Tunes, Huckleberry Hound, and Spongebob Squarepants, which contain no objectionable material -- just good, clean humor little kids can understand. Anime (even Naruto) contains a lot of stuff most parents would not want the young 'uns to see. Hell, if the narrow-minded pricks took the time to sit down and watch Elfen Lied, Soukou no Strain, or Claymore, they'd probably be appalled and say stuff like "They show stuff like this to children?!" Honestly, people. Just because it's animation doesn't mean it's for kids. Just a rant I wanna get out. |

Well,I'm honestly not that big on anime. There's some good ones but I find alot a waste of time. It's true alot of the stories are much better than american cartoons though. I just really don't like all the "Narutards" running around with there frickin' headbands and Bleach gloves. Maybe that's just my school,I don't know. Whatever happened to the good ol' days when Toonami played worthwhile shows? |

I happen to be one of those people with a naruto headband...but I wouldn't consider myself a "narutard". In fact, I like bleach a lot more than Naruto anyway. I watch a lot of less-than-popular ones, the sort of stuff they don't show on Toonami or Adult Swim, like Maburaho, Fruits Basket, Oh My Goddes, Petshop of Horrors, and a bunch of other ones. I guess, yeah, a lot of the stuff they have on mainstream TV can be a turnoff, but if you do any real, decent digging, you can be sure to find something that even a non-anime fan would like.

O_O Soo.. basically the guy wants to do Americanime and could only name Avatar as a good one? You should have wished him the best of luck, MW. The guy's gonna need it for being such an ignorant ass. If he could only offer the reasons "its a ripoff, the story sucks, the characters are emo.." ect. ect. Then congratulations to him: you made your point real well. I only really watch/read Bleach and Naruto and finished Death Note, hard to find the time for anything else. :\ Lucky for me, I've never met any anime haters. |

I wasn't making fun of people for wearing the headbands more making fun of them for following that show so blindly. All the "anime fans" I know IRL only watch Toonami and Adult Swim for anime. Half the kids didn't even know Death Note exisisted till it was on AS.

What I find worse is that people instantly see something that looks like the Rangers eg. Toku and laugh because they say I'm watching Power Rangers. A lot of people I know wont even look at anime, they say its kids stuff, although at uni no one really cares, theres only been one person so far to say all toku is power rangers, but he was dressed like Light Yagami from death note so he can't really say anything.
