The Return of PRE
So, here's the thread some have waited for. Better explaining why I brought PRE back. I'll try and keep it short and sweet.
First and foremost, I still stand behind much of what I said after I closed PRE originally. So that doesn't change.
I closed PRE about half a year ago because of numerous reasons. To try and break it down, I basically lost control of PRE. Even though I had thought I had it under control. And some of the stuff I didn't find out until AFTER I closed PRE. Much of which aggravated me. So it reinforced by decision to close it. The problems were many.
PRE was my first website/forum and was also my playground of sorts as to figure out what would work best, what didn't, etc.. It worked because it helped me get a better idea of what worked and what didn't. Thus helping to propel PRE to be the #2 PR forum closest behind Rangerboard in size and popularity. (Which some RB'ers hated that fact.) The downside is that because of all of the constant changes, it also drove some people away and drove others nuts. It was a double edged sword.
To compound the problem because of PRE's fast growing size and activity I was frequently running into webhost problems. The problem with webhosts, is that unless you usually pay a premium price, you just have no idea how good or bad their service really is. Most every webhost PRE ended up on had good reviews. But that didn't stop 1 webhost from being bought out and forcing me to a new webhost. Yes, THEY forced me and others on their servers to move since they were switching to the people that bought them out. Which ended up being MORE unreliable. There were a few times PRE was almost lost all together because of the webhosts. And I'm human. Some people probably think I liked moving the site. I didn't. I still hate it. Especially if its causing frequent problems with the site and especially if I just don't have the time to deal with the problems. It's a crapshoot, the webhost game that is.
So, ok..I killed PRE. But for the past 6 months and even leading up until the past month swore on not ever bringing PRE back. Why go against my word? Simple.
I'm a casual fan of PR. Always have been. I'm not hardcore into it like some people are. I also have a life offline. So many times I hated coming home and seeing any BS that has happened while I was away from the site. Be it webhost issues, moderator issues, member issues, etc.. Or a combination of all 3 at one time.
After having the site offline about the past 6 months I had time to take a break, relax, and just be casual. But let's face it. MOST PR sites suck. If the site doesn't have a bunch of jerks for members or mods, another has mods that are stricter than a Sunday School teacher. Both which suck the life out of the fandom. You want to have fun and can't without getting into trouble. Or you get treated like an ass for asking a simple question THEY think may be stupid. Seriously. It's pathetic. The fandom deserves better than that.
After I opened Henshin Empire I knew it was likely a matter of time before PRE returned. I just didn't know how or when. It was after I figured out what to do with Power Rangers.tv that I knew PRE was coming back. I still had to tie the sites together though. And thus Ranger Media Network came about.
I brought PRE back fresh because the fandom needs a place they can go to without being ridiculed or looked down on. To be able to be treated like humans.
Power Rangers isn't a serious show. And it's not meant to be taken seriously. It's fun. Power Rangers has a stigma about it. Many hate talking with their friends about it for fear of ridicule. So they come to places like PRE to talk about it with others that do like it.
Some people in the PR fandom plain and simple need a hard kick between the eyes. They don't want to believe THEY could be part of the problem. That they instead are helping the fandom by treating others in it like crap or by looking down on them. Those people are idiots. They feel because they may have helped one person, they can now treat 6 others like crap.
I brought PRE back because I realized too many PR forums have mods/admins on power trips or members that just want an excuse to be assholes. Or admins that don't notice how their mods treat their members for any number of reasons. Yeah, like those morons are helping make the fandom look good. No wonder many of the actors/actresses want in and out as quickly as possible. Have some of you stepped back and even looked at how badly the fandom looks?! It's pathetic. So, now is the time to change it. Even if it means splitting the fandom in 2 to do it.
I use the word 'fandom' almost in a general or broad sweeping sense. But it's not. Many in the fandom want to help others, help the fandom, and help promote and improve the fandoms image. But sadly, the idiots are ruling the roost at the moment. Thus PRE's return.
I want a place I can go without feeling either repressed or treated like crap and to talk PR or whatever else comes to mind. And I know many in the fandom do too. They want a place where they can stay up late, swap manly stories, and in the morning make waffles.
PRE is back. And it's back until PR is dead.
And for those wondering, PRE was around about 4 years before I fully killed it. There was a period close to a year before I closed it I thought of keeping it closed because of a webhost issue. I was tired of dealing with that crap. But I brought it back only because of the members. So for those wondering if it will be around another 6 months....yes it will. I took steps this time preparing for PRE to do well and what I will do to help prevent as many of the past problems as possible.
PRE is back. Deal with it. And if you are a true part of the fandom, you will work with it...not against it or the people in it. And you will not look down on others in the fandom as lessers. Even if you have been with the fandom since the day Austin St. John popped from his mom's womb.
