While speaking with my contact at Sony via e-mail, I managed to get him to spill a little news about the PSN store re-structuring. Hold on, because this gets weird really fast.

First: The store design will include a more intuitive category system. You’ll also be able to sort the items on each page by name, most downloads, date added, and category.

Secondly: There will be more types of download-able content to be added to the PSN store. Starting from the redesigns launch you’ll be able to download full length movies!

Now, here’s the strange part: There will be a ‘Mature’ section. That’s right. Adult movies as well as Mature rated games and other content will be accessible from this section. It’s the only part of the store that isn’t readily available, however. When you attempt to access this portion of the store, you’re taken to a sign up page. On this page you are to submit various information to Sony to help verify your age. In the span of 3 to 4 days, you’ll receive a PM from Sony. You’ll know it’s official (and not some hacker) because you won’t be able to reply to the sender and the user-name will be the Playstation 1 logo. If you information was legit, it’ll contain an attachment. The attachment will be an update for your system that will unlock access to the adult section of the Playstation store. From there you’ll be able to purchase all the different kinds of adult friendly content. As cool as that seems, it’s a little too thorough for my tastes.

The Bitbag PSN Store Redesign: Giggity Giggity.

--------------------------------------

Mature Content for download? That's the first time I have heard of that one. Interesting to see if that pans out or not. If it's not just a rumor or whatever.

I have attached some pics that have been officially confirmed to be the new look of the Playstation Network Store. The new store DOES NOT, unlike currently, use the PS3 browser. It will require firmware update 2.30 for this new store to be available. It stores the images locally on the PS3 to speed up viewing the store.

The downside? After this week, for 2 weeks there will be NO PSN updates while the new store is implemented in mid-April. (Likely April 16th or 17th.) However Sony has stated all planned updates that were supposed to come out after this week and before launch of the new store, will be put on hold and released when the new store launches. In other words, the store will be flooded with stuff. And not just what was planned to be released. Grand Turismo Prologue is one of the games coming with the store re-launch. Sony has promised a special update at the re-launch in mid-April to make up for the 2 week lull. HOWEVER, current content can still be bought and downloaded. Just nothing new will be added until re-launch of the network. Sony has stated you will not have to change anything.

Also, about a month or so ago, the president of Sony Europe stated in game XMB was coming with firmware 2.40 this summer. At the time we were only on 2.1. and people wondered how that was gonna be possible Well, now with the latest firmware update and this upcoming one pushing it to 2.30, it's extremely likely in-game XMB is indeed coming sometime in early to mid summer as was stated. So it looks like PS3 owners now have a lot to be happy for!

Should be interesting to see! I know I'm jacked!
